48 Volt Brings Innovation to the Automotive Industry !!

Today, the increase in emission regulations actively applied by the states and the introduction of emission regulations in practice has been on the agenda recently.

However, due to the difficult conditions of emission regulations, automobile manufacturers have to look for ways to reduce the carbon emissions of vehicles as much as possible while producing. Engines manufactured as internal combustion and many automobiles that exist today become obliged to transform in the light of these regulations.

Everyone knows how good the automobile industry is with technology. In these matters, it is not surprising that cars are equipped with very luxurious and technological equipment. However, compliance with the criteria specified in emission regulations has now become compulsory for new production vehicles.

It can be said that this has started to direct the development in a technological aspect and the environmental direction. Electric vehicles emerge as a natural result of steering. “A 12-volt electrical system can provide a current of about 300 amperes, has a peak value of about 600 amps, barely can provide energy to power traction motors and braking systems to maintain modern infotainment systems and semi-autonomous safety.”

These words, uttered by Karl-Heinz Steinmetz, point to a devastating change that comes with it. Today, this destructive change has also occurred as a 48 Volt electrical system. Thus, the high energy needs of the vehicles are met.

This change has been accepted by many manufacturers in the automotive industry. Auto brand manufacturers are launching light hybrid vehicles with start-stop technology. This technology allows the engine to be temporarily switched off while the vehicle is docking, braking, or stop, and then restarted quickly with power provided by the new system. Low-tech mild-hybrid automakers will follow this technology this year. Also, unlike conventional hybrid electric vehicles, electric motors in mild hybrid electric vehicles are used to support internal combustion engines and do not only power vehicles.

Some of the automotive manufacturers in the sector claim that almost 20% of fuel savings can be achieved with the 48-volt electrical system. The 40-volt electrical system is also very functional to meet the increasing demands due to the trend towards high-tech vehicles with an increasing trend towards electric vehicles.

With innovations in these systems, automakers can meet stricter global fuel economy and emissions standards and build a world with cleaner air and safer ways, without compromising power, performance, and driving safety.

Energized Powertrains and More Systems

Conventional 12-volt electrical systems take advantage of advanced technology using conventional lead-acid batteries and alternators to provide electrical power for various energy-consuming functions such as interior and exterior lighting, semi-automatic collision avoidance, and lane shift safety.

The 48-volt system can handle more of these power loads. The energy required for the operation of modern turbochargers, air conditioning compressors, active suspension systems, coolant pumps, oil pumps, and power steering pumps is provided by the electrical system instead of the crankshaft pulleys, as well as the belt drive.

Technically speaking, the structural conversion required to switch from 12 volts to 48 volts is not large, but even with the addition of higher voltage systems, automakers are still working hard to ensure that this tuning can maintain long-term durability. In a 48 volt system, instead of the alternator used in a 12-volt system, the generator converts power from the engine. Besides, a 48-volt large capacity lithium-based battery and a regenerative braking system are also required.
