Also, unlike conventional hybrid electric vehicles, electric motors in mild hybrid electric vehicles are used to support internal combustion engines and do not only power vehicles.
Some of the automotive manufacturers in the sector claim that almost 20% of fuel savings can be achieved with the 48-volt electrical system. The 40-volt electrical system is also very functional to meet the increasing demands due to the trend towards high-tech vehicles with an increasing trend towards electric vehicles.

Energized Powertrains and More Systems
Conventional 12-volt electrical systems take advantage of advanced technology using conventional lead-acid batteries and alternators to provide electrical power for various energy-consuming functions such as interior and exterior lighting, semi-automatic collision avoidance, and lane shift safety.
The 48-volt system can handle more of these power loads. The energy required for the operation of modern turbochargers, air conditioning compressors, active suspension systems, coolant pumps, oil pumps, and power steering pumps is provided by the electrical system instead of the crankshaft pulleys, as well as the belt drive.
Technically speaking, the structural conversion required to switch from 12 volts to 48 volts is not large, but even with the addition of higher voltage systems, automakers are still working hard to ensure that this tuning can maintain long-term durability. In a 48 volt system, instead of the alternator used in a 12-volt system, the generator converts power from the engine. Besides, a 48-volt large capacity lithium-based battery and a regenerative braking system are also required.
